ODT 13 - Timberland Traverse 1 (Temporary, on-road, Route)
At present, this 9.6-mile segment of ODT is close to construction and will be primarily on old railroad grade. For now, bicyclists and other users who want to continue west toward the Pacific Ocean can use the temporary route on US Hwy 101. Turn west on the shoulders of the highway for 7.3 miles to the Cooper Ranch Rd intersection. Turn left (south) on Cooper Ranch Rd for 2.3 miles to the intersection with Mary Clark Rd, which is the end of this segment.
Highway 101 has a lot of fast traffic, but quite wide paved shoulders. Cooper Ranch Rd is a paved county road with light (but possibly fast) traffic and narrow shoulders. The route drops about 400 ft overall going west. The route parallels the winding course of the Sol Duc River with a bridge crossing on Hwy 101 shortly before the turnoff. This is primarily managed forest land, with stands of Douglas fir ranging from new growth to mature forest, and with occasional stream crossings and glimpses of the river.
